they provide to Village of Woodlawn residents and
businesses. Parks and Recreation / Community Center - The department
provides leisure-time activities and makes village
facilities available for rental. The Department Director

Department - Consists of a Director and a staff of six
employees. The department is responsible for the general
care of all Village-owned property, streets, vehicles and

The Woodlawn Fire Department was strictly on call until 1980. In that
year a full-time Fire Chief was hired. By the year 1986,
the need existed for personnel to man the station during
weekday business hours. Six (6) firefighter/EMT/Inspectors
were hired. This was the beginning of the current on
station program. In October of 1995, the department
expanded the on station program by hiring three (3)
additional persons and starting a 24/48 hour rotating
schedule. This schedule allows the fire station to
be staffed 24 hours each day. The Fire Chief may be

Police Department - provides law enforcement
throughout the Village. The Department consists of
17 full time police officers, with 6 auxiliary officers
and a support staff of 1 full time police clerk,
(1) full time and (1) part time clerks of court. The Chief
of Police is Walter F. Obermeyer, 10143 Woodlawn Blvd.

Finance Department -
is responsible for the financial well being of
the Village. Included in the Finance Department are the
Accounts Payable and Receivable Division, Tax Department
and Payroll Operations

Tax Department -
The
Woodlawn tax rate is 2% on all income, qualifying wages,
commissions and other compensation. Also taxable is the
net profit of businesses, professions, rental and other
activities. Interest, dividends, pension income,
unemployment and military pay are not taxable.
All residents, 18 years and older must file
an annual earnings tax return.
Credit
for tax paid to another municipality is limited to 2% of
